We are a traditional Tai Chi school dedicated to preserving and sharing authentic Yang Style Tai Chi. For over 27 years, our school has guided students of all ages toward better health, balance, and inner calm through disciplined and mindful practice.

Our Founder & Master

The TaiChi Federation of India is founded on the vision, discipline, and lifelong dedication of Late Master Michael A. Selvaraj, a highly respected martial artist and Tai Chi practitioner who devoted his life to promoting traditional arts for health, balance, and holistic well-being.

Early Martial Arts

Master (Late) Michael A. Selvaraj, hailing from Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, India, was a highly respected martial artist who dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the wisdom of both Indian and Chinese martial traditions.

Martial Arts Foundation

  • Trained in Kalari, Varmam, and Vaithiyam from 1969
  • Began Shito Ryu Karate-Do training in 1978
  • Achieved the prestigious 6th Dan Black Belt in Shito Ryu Karate-Do

In 1996, Master Selvaraj embarked on his Tai Chi journey under the guidance of Grandmaster Fu Shengyuan, becoming a direct disciple of:

  • Grandmaster Fu Shengyuan
  • Grand Master Fu Qingquan (James Fu)

He traveled frequently to China, training intensively to master the subtle internal principles and authentic transmission of Yang Style Tai Chi.

International Representation & Achievements

Master Selvaraj proudly represented India in several international Tai Chi and Wushu tournaments:

  • Shanghai World Grand Wushu Festival (2002)
    – 2nd Place (Tai Chi Forms), Merit of Excellence Award
  • Handan Wushu Tournament (2002)
    – 2nd Place (Tai Chi Forms)
  • Shanghai World Grand Wushu Festival (2004)
    – 4th Place (Tai Chi Forms), 3rd Place (Tai Chi Sword)
  • Hong Kong International Tai Chi Tournament (2004)
    – 🥇 Gold Medal (Tai Chi Form Category)

Rajam Selvaraj is a senior member of the Tai Chi Federation of India (TFI), serving as the Managing Trustee. With deep respect for traditional values, she plays a key role in guiding the organization’s vision, administration, and long-term development. Her dedication supports the preservation and authentic transmission of Yang Style Tai Chi for future generations

The Tai Chi Federation of India is guided by Master B. Shunmugam, a senior practitioner and teacher of traditional Yang Style Tai Chi with over 27 years of dedicated experience in practice, training, and instruction.

Master B. Shunmugam was trained under Late Master Michael A. Selvaraj, a highly respected martial artist and Tai Chi master who played a pivotal role in introducing and spreading authentic Yang Style Tai Chi in India. Carrying forward this esteemed lineage, Master B. Shunmugam remains committed to preserving the purity, discipline, and depth of classical Tai Chi.

Under his guidance, students are trained through a systematic and traditional approach that emphasizes:

  • Correct posture, alignment, and structural integrity
  • Harmony of body, breath, and intention
  • Development of internal energy (Qi)
  • Classical Yang Style forms, including the 85-form
  • Ethical teaching, discipline, and lifelong practice

Students guided by Master B. Shunmugam develop not only physical balance and strength, but also mental clarity, inner calm, and a deeper understanding of Tai Chi as a complete internal martial art.
